POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Youth Development and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Marshall Area YMCA, Counselors are the primary staff working with a group of up to100 children that are divided among three individual camps. Youth are from Kindergarten to 8th grade.

Counselors are responsible for the care of youth in camp programs as well as leading activities for the youth. Activities range from arts, STEM, sports/gym games, outdoors, and more. Camp also travels to field trips in and outside the Marshall area.

In addition, he/she is to aid the Marshall Area YMCA in fulfilling our mission to instill the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility through programs and services that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Summer Camp will begin on June 3 and will end August 9th, with the option of additional hours through September 6, 2024. Accommodations can be made for college students returning to school at the end of August. Counselor training will be held the week of May 13th-17th. There will also be mandatory training June 21st, July 19th and Aug 2nd.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Position requires a person with experience in working with younger children and leading activities. Must be at least 18 years of age or have prior Y childcare experience. A person must have an energetic personality that reflects a love of children, can understand and meet their wide variety of needs, and is creative and spontaneous. CPR and First Aid certifications are required (may be obtained upon being hired).

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND PREREQUISITES

Must be able to move easily across a variety of indoor and outdoor terrain; participate in typical outdoor children’s games, sports and activities; watch and listen to the activities of a group of children; lift up to 50 pounds; and spend up to eight hours per day outside in a variety of summer weather conditions.
