POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Building and Property Director will oversee the general maintenance of the Marshall Area YMCA, including management of maintenance and custodial staff, to ensure a quality member experience and welcoming facility.

GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Executive Director and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Marshall Area YMCA, the Building & Grounds Director is responsible for the physical operation and maintenance of the YMCA building and grounds. The Building & Grounds Manager oversees the custodial staff; administers a preventive maintenance program; has fiscal accountability; and participates as a member of the staff team.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Position requires a person with an education and experience in facility maintenance and cleanliness. Incumbent must hold or be willing to gain a boiler license. CPO (Certified Pool Operator) is required. Certification class may be completed after hire. Incumbent must be computer literate and able to develop and follow a budget. CPR and First Aid certifications are required and provided.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures facility cleanliness, systems and equipment operation, and property condition.
  • Responsible for the operation of the aquatic center, HVAC system, geothermal heat pumps, boilers, hot water heaters, fitness equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, etc.
  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise the day-to-day responsibilities of custodial staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of direct reports and conduct scheduled performance reviews.
  • Hold regular in-service training.
  • Develops a preventive maintenance program and routinely inspects all areas of the facility including safety & risk management issues.
  • Performs minor repairs within personal capabilities and procures contracts with independent contractors for other major repairs.
  • Performs basic landscaping functions including lawn mowing. Establishes a contract with a local vendor for parking lot snow removal. Use YMCA resources to maintain clear sidewalk conditions.
  • Place and supervise community volunteers who are assisting with custodial or maintenance projects.
  • Responsible for the facility recycling plan and waste removal contract.
  • Ensure inspection codes and OSHA guidelines are followed.
  • Develops the department budget. Manage custodial and occupancy costs. Purchase supplies within budget guidelines.
  • Act as the primary staff liaison to the Building and Property Committee.
  • Sets up rooms for various events and meetings.
  • Work as a member of the staff team and interact with members, guests, and other community leaders.
  • Attending staff training and meetings as required.
  • Have complete knowledge of all emergency procedures.
  • Assure compliance to Minnesota and Federal laws related the physical operation of the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and / or experience in a related field or position.
  • Experience working on electrical, plumbing, and carpentry projects.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Current certification or willingness to pursue a boiler license and become a Certified Pool Operator.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Must pass reference checks, background check and sex offender registry check.
