POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Personal Wellness and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Marshall Area YMCA, a Floor Supervisor is responsible for assisting members/guests with equipment utilization; assisting in maintaining fitness equipment; and orientating new members with the Fitness Center.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops meaningful relationships with parents, youth, and other YMCA staff.
  2. Assist in maintaining all fitness equipment.
  3. Ensure the cleanliness of the Fitness Center and work with the Director of Personal Wellness & Building and Grounds Director to maintain all equipment in proper working order.

  4. Model, teach, and incorporate the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

  5. Interact with members/guests in a positive manner at all times, and get to know members on a first name basis.

  6. Be encouraging, informative, and motivating for all members/guests.  Create a non-intimidating environment where member/guests feel safe and supported.

  7. Explain and demonstrate all equipment in the Fitness Center.

  8. Provide customer service in the Fitness Center in accordance with the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility

  9. Perform Fitness Center Orientations for all new members.

  10. Answer basic questions concerning strength training and aerobic conditioning.

  11. Answer basic questions concerning YMCA policies, programs, and services.

  12. Monitor the fitness center looking for members/guests that need help, safety concerns, cleanliness, and equipment care.

  13. Check in members/guests at the fitness center desk.

  14. The Marshall Area YMCA will be known in the community as an organization dedicated to building character.

  15. When no orientations are scheduled, the Floor Supervisor should perform a variety of preventative maintenance tasks as assigned by the Director of Healthy Living.

  16. When no orientations are scheduled and other individual tasks are completed, individual attention should be given to all members/guests using the Fitness Center.  This includes offering suggestions in a caring and supportive fashion on proper exercise form, making sure all room guidelines are being followed, and encouraging/motivating members.

  17. Be responsible for finding a qualified substitute for any absence and notify the Director of Healthy Living.

  18. Assist the Director of Personal Wellness and YMCA staff team as necessary to ensure successful outcome of YMCA operations and mission.

  19. The incumbent must be able to fulfill the above job requirements by purposefully and seamlessly challenging her/himself and others to accept and demonstrate the positive values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires a person who is at least 18 years of age with a background in fitness.  A Floor Supervisor should be friendly, outgoing, and have a clear understanding of the YMCA’s mission statement.  The position requires CPR and First Aid certification.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to demonstrate and use a variety of fitness machines including, but not limited to treadmills, free weights, and selectorized strength equipment.
